One Night With A Stranger
Salt in My Tears

I never did it, no, I won't admit it
Why should I lie for you anymore?
You never loved me, you pushed and shoved me
I see the woman I never saw

I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm lookin' back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cos you ain't worth the salt in my tears

Feeling neglected, used and rejected
You need a shoulder to lean upon
Maybe you picked him, found your next victim
Don't worry someone will come along

I broke the spell that you kept me under
I'd had enough of the rain and thunder
I lost track of the time and I wonder why
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cos you ain't worth the salt in my tears

I'll sit around and drink a few more beers
Until the memory just disappears
'Cos you ain't worth the salt in my tears

I saw you laugh when the knife was twisted
It still hurts but the pain has shifted
I'm lookin' back at the time that drifted by
But I won't cry for the wasted years
'Cos you ain't worth the salt in my tears
'Cos you ain't worth the salt in my tears
'Cos you ain't worth the salt in my tears

Just a Mile Away From Here

I think I'd rather be lonely
Than be somewhere I don't want to be
And she's driving me crazy
She knows it's over
But she doesn't want to set me free
But I won't let her make a slave out of me
As long as there's always one place I can go
You know the side of me she'll never know

Just a mile away from here
True love is waiting
Just a mile away from here
I close my eyes and I'm almost there

She smells something burning
She keeps looking
But she's never gonna find the flames
I think she thrives on friction
She wants numbers and she wants names
But I don't have the time for her foolish games
'Cos there's a weird and wonderful world out there
And I'm just not ready for the  rocking chair

Just a mile away from here
True love is waiting
Just a mile away from here
I close my eyes and I'm almost there

'Cos there's a weird and wonderful world out there
And I'm just not ready form the rocking chair

Just a mile away from here
True love is waiting
Just a mile away from here
I close my eyes and I'm almost there

Put Your Hands on the Screen

America, are you listening to me?
Jesus sends me
To show how good your life can be
We don't care if you're sinners
We don't want to know where you've been
You can wash yourself clean
Just put your hands on the screen

Our lines are open
And now we wait for you to call
If your chair is comfy
You hardly have to move at all
There's a church on the corner
But you haven't been  for a while
But don't touch that dial
Just put your hands on the screen

The choir is singing
And everybody's feeling good
The phones are ringing
From Bethlehem  to Hollywood
So move in closer
Let your faces feel the glow
There's a holy presence
Right here in the studio
Bring the sick and the dying
And maybe together we'll see
Ze miracle of TV
Just put your hands on the screen
Maybe I've Waited Too Long

You're so late,
I don't know what you think  it's  proving
I hid  the clock
But I can feel the numbers moving
I don't know why I still worry about you
Do you think I've nothing better to do
You don't know how I hate
To sit here and wait for you to arrive

Maybe I've waited too long
And I ain't gonna take it anymore (I've waited too long)
What kind of fool do you take me for (I've waited too long)
I'm giving up and I'm locking the door
I could be wrong but maybe I've waited too long
You used to be a very good friend (I've waited too long)
But  you let me down time  and again (I've waited too long)
And there can never be a happy end
I could be wrong,  but maybe I've waited too long

Remember
When we were younger and you loved me
Well I can't forget it
I think about it when I'm lonely
Making promises you could not keep
Telling me lies to make me sleep
But  we're getting nowhere
It's as if you don't care
If I'm dead or alive

Maybe I've waited too long
And I ain't gonna take it anymore (I've waited too long)
What kind of fool do you take me for (I've waited too long)
I'm giving up and I'm locking the door
I could be wrong but maybe I've waited too long
You used to be a very good friend (I've waited too long)
But then you let me down again and again (I've waited too long)
And there can never be a happy end
I could be wrong,  but maybe I've waited too long

She's So Flexible

The first thing I taste
Is the toothpaste in her kiss
And because she's late
She runs  for the bus that she mustn't miss
She can be hard as steel
But she can soothe like lanolin
And even when she's busy
She finds time to squeeze me in

And as a matter of fact
I never had a love like that
She has an open mind
She's sweet and kind
But best of all

She's so flexible, she's so flexible
She never has to bend to be accessible

We're always close
No matter how far I go
Calling coast to coast
If only to tell her I love her so
And 'cos she knows I do
She doesn't need it in black and white
She doesn't wanna stick like glue
She doesn't need a window to see the light

And as a matter of fact
I never had a love like that
She has an open mind
She's sweet and kind
But best of all

She's so flexible, she's so flexible
She never has to bend to be accessible
She's so flexible, she's so flexible
We ain't birds of a feather
We're not always together
But we're inseparable
'Cos she's so flexible
I love her Rubba-Dubba-Doo

A Rainy Day in New York City

You swallow every line he feeds you
He swears he's no cheap romeo
He promises he'll always need you
To need him too
But you know it isn't true
And I'm afraid, all along , he's been lying to you
And he knows, that I know
But I can't let it go
No, not again

It happened on a rainy day in New York City
It wasn't love and they never pretended
Some say it began as it ended
On a rainy, rainy day
But I say she's a cloud that won't blow away

Did you notice he took longer shaving?
He's never been so squeaky clean
He leaves you at the window waving
You'll see it through
But you know it isn't true
And I don't want to let  him make a fool out of you
'Cos he lies
I saw him with my own two eyes
It's happening again

It's another rainy day in New York City
Somewhere they're sharing a broken umbrella
And you're the secret that he'll never never tell her
It's a rainy, rainy day
And I say she's a cloud that won't blow away

In secrecy they'll meet
On the corner of the street
It's raining but he'll keep her dry
You trust him ,but you don't
You'll phone him , but you won't
Afraid to check his alibi

'Cos you know it isn't true
And I'm afraid, all along , he's been lying to you
And he knows, that I know
But I can't let it go
No, not again

It happened on a rainy day in New York City
It's getting late and he said he'd be calling
He lets you down and the tears keep falling
It's a rainy, rainy day
And I say she's a cloud that won't blow away

I Wonder What She Thinks of Me

I saw her first at the local pool
Where all the young girls swim
She was coming out as I was going in
And though it was just a fleeting glance
I knew she had to be
The most beautiful girl that I would ever see
I know she saw me too
But then what could I do
She always seems to be with someone else.
But when he turns away
I see she wants to say hello
But she winks....
Oh I wonder what she thinks of me

I think about her every night
Before I go to sleep
I need her now but it's love that won't come cheap
Oh , I've seen him
He picks her up and he takes her out
To fancy restaurants
But I don't think he can give her what she really wants
I saw her yesterday
Again she looked my way
She only does it when his back is turned
And when I watch her go
No one could ever know
My poor heart sinks
Oh, I wonder what she thinks of me
We'll just have to wait and see
Oh, I wonder what she thinks of me

Someday I'll pin her down
When he's not around
I'd love to know what's on her  mind
'Cos when he turns away
I see she wants to say hello
But she winks....
Oh I wonder what she thinks of me
We'll just have to wait and see
Oh, I wonder what she thinks of me

Dumb Love

It was one of those places
It was one of those nights
She was one of those girls who had purposely ripped holes in her tights
I saw her leaning up against the bar
Wearing the leopard upholstery from a stolen car
I thought she was a porno star
She had a name I would never remember
She had a face I will never forget
She stood among the ruins and lit her cigarette
In the light from the match
I could see she was smiling, as she said

"I hope that dumb love will be enough
And you never get bored with the dirty stuff"
'Cos dumb love was the only kind of love she knew

She was like no girl thatI had ever known
Though the lights were on
There was obviously nobody home
I don't know what I ever thought I'd find
Looking at the world too long through her venetian blind
Could leave me with a hungry mind
She used to live with a man who was shady
And they both struck a beautiful pose
Buy she only loved his money
And he only loved her clothes
But she never looked back
She just kept smiling as she said

"I just make dumb love and nothing else
And you might as well talk to yourself
Maybe dumb love will never be enough for you"

Every morning she searches  the bed
But there's nobody  near
And it's the start of another long day
She listens for something
But she knows that there's nothing to hear
Only the sigh of a distant highway

She had a name I would never remember
She had a face I will never forget
We stood among the ruins and I  lit her cigarette
In the light from the match
I could see she was crying, as she said
"I knew that dumb love wouldn't be enough
And  you'd  soon get bored with the dirty stuff"
'Cos dumb love was the only kind of love she knew
She just makes dumb love and nothing else
And you might as well talk to yourself
Maybe dumb love will never be enough for you

One Night With a Stranger

She takes a rest, puts her feet on the desk
And the world's at her fingertips
She's really come a long, long way
But she gets bored if things are the same
Everyday she's seen with a Cosmo dream
Who was king of the questionnaires
But there's a part of her life that he never shares

One night, one night with a stranger
Something to keep her on the rails
A remedy that never fails
One night, one night with a stranger
One night, one night with a stranger
And everything'll be alright !

And later on when the feeling is gone
And she's back in the old routine
She can't believe that she did all that
It's like a dream but she's keeping it under her hat
That's how it goes, Mr. Right never knows
She has so much to lose
But when her motors running she's ready to cruise

It only takes one night, one night with a stranger
It's like a habit she cannot break
And right now it's only gonna take
One night, one night with a stranger
One night, one night with a stranger
And everything'll be alright !

Until the night of the tattooed man
It read HATE on the knuckles of his drinking hand
A lot of zips and leather
And the very last thing she saw
Was the sight of her own blood on the floor
She should of known better
Diamonds are nice...
But take my advice...
Tattoos are forever

It only takes one night, one night with a stranger
The last one she would ever spend
What a waste and a bad way to end
One night with a stranger
One night with a stranger
And everything'll be alright !
